Re: Hey, Folks

I wish I could get online to fly with you guys more. It's usually during the day while I'm at work unfortunately - I'd love to get together and do it again sometime.

Just so it's clear, I wasn't suggesting we don't use the proposed landing procedure by saying that, lol. I only make that point as I've not seen anyone cut anyone else off now for a long time.

Re: Landing SOP

Ultimately I think we're all disciplined enough now to ensure that we're not cutting anyone off and keeping an eye out for others in the circuit ahead of us - and having all of us switch to the same channel makes that even easier if we're all landing on the same field... which is something else to c...

Re: Landing SOP

Someone suggested having the first person to drop out/be shot down/ditch/RTB to spawn in a new aircraft and just sit on the airfield and act as tower radio controller to sequence arrivals. That may be an unnecessary complication, although realistic. This would require practice and a bit of training...

Re: Introduction and hello...

Hello - and welcome to the wing. I have some of the same flight / sim background as you... was (and still am) desperate to get my own pilot's license and one thing or another has kept me from it every time I was ready to start (hasn't kept me from flying many intro flights though - several 172s, a c...

I actually don't try to lean over and see out the canopy - I have to lean too far to the left or right to do that. And it doesn't really do much anyway, lol. Sitting in my cockpit I can't lean backward far enough to see behind me.

Re: VR questions, double app windowed on desktop

Oooh don’t forget to limit the head view otherwise you’ll be able to stick your head through the cockpit in flight and that is weird. I actually don't limit that. For me it's really weird and disorientating to lean slightly to the left or right and then have my vision suddenly stop because of the c...

Re: VR questions, double app windowed on desktop

Yeah, that and ducking when tracer whizzes past your cockpit, or a flak burst appears right in front of your aircraft. It's great 😃 Heh... I can't remember what campaign it was now, but I was so into the mission at one point when a flak burst exploded so close, and in front, of my plane that I inst...

Re: VR questions, double app windowed on desktop

I cannot quite get to terms with the level of immersion. It's very strange the way it tricks the mind. Oh... just you wait, lol. I also fly a lot of XPlane and Flight Simulator 2020. More than once I've done things like hear someone message me on my phone, peek under the headset to check the messag...

Re: Open Composite

Here's another link that might help: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/79215-il-2-steam-version-startup-choices-vr-or-2d/ I just did this (by creating the shortcut "steam://launch/307960/vr"), then opened OpenComposite, switched to SteamVR and then immediately back to OpenComposite as the default...

Re: Open Composite

I should mention too though that I haven't run IL2 in OpenComposite for a long time - there was some change that occurred at some point (and I don't remember what it was) that caused an issue on my system and I just never went back to it with IL2. But the way I mentioned above is how I set it up ori...

Re: Open Composite

Well, when you install OpenComposite, make sure it's completely up to date, and then make sure SteamVR is up to date. Then run OpenComposite and make sure you check that "Switch to OpenComposite" is engaged (it should be grayed out). You can specify certain games too by clicking the "Configure" butt...
