Tom, do you really think you can trust me and Sparky in the air?
Not a chance in hell, especially when you profess such love for the Horribus.

It'll be bad enough with Sparky trying to shoot me down (or generally stealing kills) and the Horribus trying to get me killed....

I'm getting my popcorn ready for when Sparky and Nummy are on comms together. I'm pretty sure there is going to be some kind of fusion or fission or something and the universe will lurch sideways.

Easy mission generator

Jacko made a couple of missions so kudos to him for putting me onto this, https://sites.google.com/view/il2-great-battles-emg/home Download to a folder, set your IL2 root directory and then hit the .exe. Any map, any aircraft can be chosen. Single, co-op or dogfight servers can be generated. You don...

I don't know yet exactly what their thoughts are on introducing larger enemy formations into our missions...
If it happened during an op that we're running then put them in.

Let me know beforehand though so I can arrange to be "ill".

Re: Mission building guidance

No disrespect, offence or anything taken. The difference between the ground and air forces is because when a squadron/flight/section was in the air whoever was in charge had some latitude in what they did. Some latitude, not complete latitude. Even in 1944 squadrons operated differently. If the brie...

Re: Mission building guidance

When I first started building ops, it took me a while to catch on to the fact that wily old squadron leaders would sometimes add a couple of thousand feet onto patrol heights stated in the brief... But that was historical - honest! The LW did it (schwarme stacked up line astern), the VVS did it, an...

Re: Mission building guidance

Armed recce would be with the object of attacking ground stuff that was camouflaged I can understand being lower. To cover a target at between 3 to 5,000ft only really works when it is ground objects to be defended from otherwise you sacrifice too much tactical flexibility. There are loads of Tempes...

Re: Mission building guidance

My knowledge is that patrol heights were generally way above 5,000ft even when covering ground objects. This is why I say that low-level to me means somewhere between 5-15,000ft. I've seen a fair few combat reports for the time indicating patrol heights around the Nijmegen area at between 6 -12,000f...

Mission building guidance

I'm not part of the mission building team so in this post I'm not directing any mission builder how to do what they do, but it might be helpful for those designing missions to know how each mission will be approached by whoever leads the mission. From my perspective, when I know what the brief is I'...

Re: Warthog HOTAS

You don't really need to bother with the various toggle switches if you don't want to. My controls are set up as shown below. Some controls are set like they are as a carry over form previous controls and to avoid having to retrain the muscle memory. Note: I disengage the left throttle and use that ...

TOM’S GUIDE TO COMMAND

TOM’S GUIDE TO COMMAND This is my guide to how I see the leadership function within the Tangmere Wing. It is not perfect and leadership is always subject to the particular idiosyncracies of the pilot in command of each unit. Each squadron also has its own identities and will do things in specific wa...

Re: F Sgt Kolo has arrived at Sutton Bridge

I am pleased to report that Kolo completed A/F 2 with his eyes closed tonight. His eyes must have been closed as he didn't spot anything until almost ramming it - a perfect candidate I thought.

Anyway, A/F 3 next week.
