Re: Sgt Fodder leaves Sutton Bridge

Welcome to No.1 Squadron. Paul Richey's Fighter Pilot covered No.1 Squadron ops in France, in 1939-40. Great bunch of fellows here. Welcome aboard.

Re: Sgt Brandy leaves Sutton Bridge

They don't call No1 Sqn 'up the bum'.... There, fixed that for you. Congratulations, and welcome to the monkey house. Glad to have you along tonight. These are a fine bunch of fellows. You've missed campaigns in the P-39 and P-47 so you've that to be thankful for. In some campaigns you can choose f...

Re: Welcome Guests.

Hi Thrilla, We fly under similar conditions to yours: no icons, complex engine management, etc. We practice Tuesdays and Fridays beginning around 2015 hours GMT and new folks can fly with us then. We fly (semi) serious operations Sunday evenings with the briefing just before 2100 hours GMT but most ...

Re: Sgt Brandy joined OTU

Welcome aboard, Brandy. You seemed a fine fellow last evening as you flew with this surly mob. Tuesday, Friday, and before ops on Sunday are, shall we say, "less structured" than ops. More broken furniture, that sort of thing. Pleased to have you with us.

Re: 'Photo Recon' added to Missions?????

I remember talking to an RF-4 pilot in 1981 who said, "Alone, armed, unafraid? It's scary as hell. People are scared $hitless."

...especially as I won the quiz. Since I scored best on the aircraft portion of the quiz (17 to your 14) and you only qualified for the final faceoff with "Is this word an Ikea furniture or Swedish town" questions and won with a vegetable-based question I think you stole my kill. [I'm conveniently ...

Re: Happy Holidays and Happy New Year

Jacko Bigbyte , thanks. That's helpful. BB, several times French friends have recommended I find a French girlfriend to "learn French." I think they're only half-joking. I'm afraid social intercourse has taken a back seat due to COVID. Intercourse in the back seat and disease are always a poor mix.

Re: Happy Holidays and Happy New Year

Received my French one year extension to my long-term visa (and residence permit) today so I can go back to the US on my February 1st flight and try to chase down a vaccine. Next autumn I can get a ten-year visa if I'm at level 1b French language proficiency (there's a free language course online). ...

Re: Welcome Guests.

Hi Moose,

My wife is way into quilting and several here play guitars. Welcome. There are several of us from the New World. I found the timing beneficial as it means I fly in the afternoon when I'm in the US.

Merry Christmas and stay safe.

Re: Sgt Marbles leaves Sutton Bridge

I have a feeling you are becoming the squadron Forrest Gump, what did you NOT do? :rof_biggrin Really cool life you have. Jack of all trades, master of none. Richard Bach once sat beside a fellow airline passenger who told him of his coxswaining a landing boat at Iwo Jima ferrying men and equipment...
