Re: Open Composite
Are you not using the game client through Steam to use OpenComposite? If that's the case, I don't believe there is any workaround for that. If you're still using the game client through Steam, I'm not sure what the issue would be, as I don't have any issues myself. But then, I bought the game client...

Re: Mission building
Yep, totally understandable. MOOSE can do some pretty amazing things, but you've really got to understand how all that scripting works to be able to make those things happen. We have a guy in my DCS group who's big into MOOSE, and a lot of the missions he designs for us have tons of MOOSE related ca...

Re: Mission building
The DCS mission editor doesn't give you the granularity that you're looking for by default. Fog of War is, as you've discovered, not really workable in the situation you've described - it basically just pops the entire unit (including all objects within it) onto the map when seen. The only way to do...

Re: DCS flight models
Ultimately in my own opinion DCS is more of a "buy the experience you want to have" platform - which is why as much as I love / hate it I fly the Hornet almost exclusively, because I enjoy carrier ops. I could list the constant issues the carrier group I fly with have constantly with the Hornet's PF...

Typ...

Re: DCS Training resources
Tom, for the Hornet cold startup I've shared my kneeboard on the Discord server (I can link it here if you like). It runs through each system and is based upon the realistic startup of the Hornet. Not that I'm disagreeing with the startup tutorials in the vids linked (not at all), just that the flow...

Re: For those thinking of starting
Do you set the HUD to SOI when using the HMD, or for some other useage? That usage is generally when you want to designate a point in the HUD as a target point that you can then use like a waypoint and set something like the FLIR pod as the designated target. It's now easier to use the Helment Moun...

For those wondeirng what on earth Fritz is talking about... :rof_biggrin Ahh yea, apologies - I should have wrote that out. I'm just so used to all the acronyms I didn't think about it. But yes - try to remember the Sensor of Interest option while in the cockpit. If you are not able to do something...

Re: For those thinking of starting
Yea - the radar in the Hornet is pretty complex, and having the same button do multiple things gets a little overwhelming at first. Once you've started working with it regularly though it just becomes muscle memory and you don't really think about it. Honestly? After all these years, the thing that ...

Re: For those thinking of starting
Yea, if the Stable version detects that Openbeta is installed, it will ask if you want to pull over all your modules - but those are the only things it will pull over. All your joystick inputs, skins, missions, all that stuff still has to be copied.

Re: For those thinking of starting
Is tehre any elegant way to transfer from Stable to OB? Or is the only way to delete the first version and clean install the latter? The best way is a clean install of Openbeta after uninstalling Stable. However - all the profile dependent data for DCS goes into your C:\User\[Profile]\Games\DCS dir...

Re: For those thinking of starting
The main issue between the Stable and Openbeta versions is that there are several modules - like the AH-64 Apache, for example - that are themselves still in "beta", so they can't be used in the Stable version. The Stable version, as Silk states, only gets updated once they reach a certain milestone...
