Well, you can *call* it flying. Really it was more of a mercy kill. :rof_biggrin

Re: Welcome Guests.

Didn't you shoot down a friendly on first ops sparky No, that's completely untrue! It was my second mission, 109s in the Kuban. I shot down a Duck. I think I've shot down two other friendlies in the almost four years of ops. I still feel bad about each one. Was one Blacktop on his second ops?

Re: Welcome Guests.

Welcome Doc. As Nummy probably told you, on January 9th, 2022, we will start a Spitfire XIV campaign. If you contact Tom you'll find out about how to push through OTU quickly in time to strap on a Spit. When IL2 releases the Battle of Normandy map we'll embark on a long RAF campaign from Hurricane I...

Re: Preliminary research on my rig upgrade

When I've had VR headset problems I used my Oculus Rift. It's not as sharp as the newest headsets but it's pretty good and, for me, better than the sharpest monitor because of the immersion. I'm assuming they are inexpensive. Some sort of joystick is needed but probably not a HOTAS. If you could buy...

Re: Post code lottery - Monitor

I fully agree with @Bunny about going VR. The VR sets now available give night-and-day difference in realism as opposed to a high-quality monitor. IL2 with VR feels life flying to me but with a monitor is feels life a computer game.

I full disagree with Bunny concerning "those Duxford shorts."

Re: if there's thunder and lightning..

I was flying an aircraft hit by lightning. We saw the bolt rush towards us and there was a dull "boom" as if someone hit the fuselage with a cupped hand. Knowing that can destroy an engine (particularly a jet turbine's bearings) I left the power 'as is' and carefully flew on to landing, not touching...

Re: Landing SOP

The USAAF 328th FS will use this beginning with the first mission after summer furlough. Recommend this be a "sticky" post in the No. 6 OTU training room.

Welcome aboard, Dickie. As new guy you're also SLJO ($hitty Little Jobs Officer) and your collateral duties include OIC of the Mess, Morale Officer, Duty Officer on the weekends or really any night something fun happens, and on and on.

Welcome to the monkey house.

Re: Feldwebel Gramps leaves Kalach

Welcome to the monkey house! Below is your official 601 picture. There's lots of "Oh, no!" cries during ops occasioned by loss of a wing or a cockpit fire or being "kilt". US Navy flight training tradition is that you buy the beer on "winging night" and that your new wings are dropped into a pitcher...
