Gladiator Pro issues

Post by Silk » Tue Nov 15, 2016 1:43 pm

As some of you will know, I had a problem that the A1 button (assigned to PTT on TS) on my new Gladiator Pro stopped fully clicking last week. I finally got a response from VKB FSC yesterday suggesting that it probably just needed a solder re-flow. On bringing it into work for our resident soldering expert (the Boss) to look at, we've ascertained that it isn't a soldering fault, but the button itself on the PCB is broken. Have informed VKB FSC in Netherlands and they have offered either to have the unit shipped back to replace the PCB or to send a replacement PCB out to me. Given the time of year and the fact that I would prefer not to be without my stick for ages (or risk any damage in transit), I have suggested they send the PCB to me for fitting.

It's a shame that a small fault like this on a part that they order in en-masse from a third party can cause even minor dis-satisfaction with what is otherwise a fantastic product.

I wouldn't have gone the PCB as it sounds like manual work is involved.

Well replace the pcb but make sure the switch works before. It sounds odd to me that it broke. They should be robust. I would check ghe button assenmbly in case its moving too far and you bust the new pcb.

Odd indeed - when I press the button currently it makes contact as evidenced by you guys hearing me. It just is not a definite click as the other buttons on that PCB are.

I've now had confirmation that a supply of PCBs should arrive with them in 1-2 weeks and one will be shipped out to me when they get them in.

Very impressed.

Recently the same button went on the replacement PCB, so I'm suspecting that it didn't like being allocated to PTT functionality or more recently bringing up the O map. I wrote to VKB FSC saying that it had gone again and they said that the stick is still under warranty so they'll send out another replacement PCB FOC

I'd be annoyed that the same problem keeps cropping up.
