Merlin's magic Pimax 8K demonstrated on IL2, err, no, on DCS

Here's a video of the new Pimax 5K+ and Pimax 8K VR headsets demonstrated with DCS World 2.5 by a guy that also plays IL2 using a GTX 1080 Ti GPU. Hopefully he'll do a video on IL2 BoX but it's similar except IL2's greater emphasis on visual ID of aircraft type and furball-type close-in dogfighting.

January, but I will probably opt for the 5K+ there is a new German tech review here Gamestar Germany Pimax Review

Sweviver is waiting on a 2080Ti to do an update on his Il2 vid at the end of October

Pre-ordered Pimax 5K+ VR headset

Post by Sparky » Fri Oct 26, 2018 5:29 pm

Pimax preorder opened up a couple days ago but I couldn't get the website ordering to work until today. I preordered the Pimax 5K+ headset only, because I have the Vive base stations already with my Vive Pro. I may receive it in January. All indications are that the 5K+ headset is better for sharp image definition in IL2 BoX rather than the more expensive Pimax 8K.

Youtube testers with 1070 and 1080 GPUs have narrowed their field of vision to 150 degrees or less to keep the desired frame rate. I'm hoping to use the full 200 degrees width of field of vision with my powerful GPU. The Vive and Rift use 110 degrees field of view.

The 8K has a different screen with more pixels but less sharpness in depicting instrument panels and distant aircraft silhouettes. The 8K is better only for watching movies and richer colors and darker black. SweViver, a Youtube Pimax tester who tried the 5K+ and 8K with IL2 BoX strongly recommended the 5K+ as superior for IL2. There is a rumor that someday Pimax might make an 8K+ headset that might be great for IL2 but that's just in the "maybe one day" land now.

Here's SweViver's video comparing the Pimax 5K+ and 8K with IL2 using a 1080 Ti. Within a month he should have a similar video with a 2080 Ti.
