DO NOT RUN THE MOST RECENT MANUAL WINDOWS UPDATE! DATA LOSS POSSIBLE!

Post by Sparky » Sun Oct 07, 2018 6:57 pm

This was from credible computer info sources.

I manually check for updates and don't know yet whether I'm affected but some users who do the manual search for updates to keep Windows current installed the latest update and lost files, folders, etc. Apparently the program that causes the loss then erases itself but those files lost are gone unless backed up elsewhere. Folders, files, photos, etc., have disappeared.

So research it and don't do what I do, manually search to see if updates are available. Give them a bit to sort it out.

All due respect, but that sounds like bunkum to me. Nothing distributed by Microsoft is going to delete your data then delete itself, it just doesn't happen. Stay with official MS updates and you'll be fine.

It was the official 1809 update, thankfully MS have pulled it for now.

Unfortunately I updated it when it came out. As if my computer needs more problems. :Dizzy

I only use this for IL2 now and mid-week the new rig should arrive.
