Basic Training unit

Post by Jacko »

Looking at the other post by cheese he has a fair comment about OTU being an operational training unit. But maybe there is a need for a Basic Training unit as well. Could be a way to bring some sprogs into the fold. My personal experience was that when I first stared in DF severs I had no clue what I was doing ( only slightly more now eh :ymblushing: ) and my learning curve would have been way quicker with a friendly Instructer buzzing my ear.

As I opened my gob and if this idea goes forward I would have to step forward to help even for a trial period to see if theer is any interest out there.

That's a nice idea. If it goes forward a basic guide should be prepared to deal with all of the initial questions. How do I join a server etc etc.

That's covered in af1 brief and verbally before Op, be a better idea not to fly 4 assessment flights as this doesn't cover the basics. Things like formation flying will only get better with experience. Killroy for instance hasn't flown much online so although take off/landing are above average he has no idea where to be or how to stay in formation. 4 assessment flights was never going to be enough to get him through to an operational Sqn.
Perhaps it's OTU that needs a re-vamp .

I have also offered help, any evening for those that need extra help to go over the very basics, NONE have asked.

I'm assured by a certain No1 Batman that it is indeed possible to fall off bottom.
Not that this applies, you understand. Just an example.
