Sgt Sylkhy arrives at a train station near to Kalach

Post by Tom »

Sgt Silk has arrived somewhere near Kalach. He needs to sort out some controls issues and will be working to transition from normal settings to Tangmere settings, but I've no doubt that very soon he'll start OTU and will sail through the OTU phase.

Mind you he's destined to be yet another chap taking pot shots at me during ops but we'll see! At least he can land "Jacko style".

Look after him please.

Carry on

Working on the camera angle / pilot head angle issues. I hope to have that sorted soon. Once that's in place I'm hoping that the other stuff will follow.

As for the name, it wouldn't let me register on the forums as Sylkh as it said that was not a word, but for some reason it accepted Sylkhy. Also happy to take on a Russian moniker if that fits (may have similar issues with forum). Spent some time in the mid to late 80s 'studying' the Soviet military (mainly ground forces) and managed a grade A in Russian GCSE.

Probably best to change it to just "Silk" or "Silky" as we try not to stray from what would have been used in the '40s. Mind you, just the mention of silk in a sentence sets some chaps' hearts racing.

Yeah, that is one of the anti-spam type filters that I have in place, it helps prevent bots registering under ridiculous names - however, the fact that it accepted Sylkhy is a bit odd, I would have expected it to deny both.

I am with Tom, maybe change it to Silk? That fits to 40's theme better, and will make Bunny's heart go all gooey at the thought of being wrapped up in a silk parachute with someone - anyone ;)

Just tried to amend forum profile name but it doesn't seem to want to let me - I'm happy to either re-register, try again later or have it changed for me. Whatever works to ensure compliance. I've been Sylkh as an online persona for so many years now that it will seem odd seeing it written differently, but strangely enough that was how I originally wanted it, but the spelling was unavailable. :)

I'll amend it so that the next time you log on just put Silk.

I always used Silk for rogue characters after the Belgariad books (read when i was a nipper but I now realise they were awful tosh).

Exactly the same origin of the name, although I rather like re-reading those books. Maybe I'm entering a second childhood?

EDIT: Job done, it appears that I have changed forum name. Have tried to change in-game name to match, but won't know how successful that has been until I try logging in this evening.

Very weirdly I was thinking of Silkies the other day - they're a breed of chicken or something (mmmhmmm KFC) and I was thinking "Silkies to shite hawk..."

Welcome to TP, Silk - best of luck with OTU.

I'm pretty sure it's now been made compulsory for new chaps to shoot Tom down during training or as soon as possible thereafter.

It's fine though - he loves the attention.

Welcome Silk from across the Big Pond.
Isn't there also a 'silkie' from Irish mythology or something--a seal-like mermaid I think?
Anyway, welcome to the chaotic skies over Russia. Nothing to it. Like using a band saw--close your eyes and go as fast as possible.
