Bodenplatte spreadsheet for Mission Builders

Post by Silk » Mon Apr 09, 2018 10:51 pm

I'm starting nice and early to put together a spreadsheet that should have most of what we would need in terms of Units, Locations, Targets and other stuff for Bodenplatte.

I've made a request on the 1CGS forums for assistance with the colours of the staffel markings in particular. if anyone is able to help I would appreciate it.

Thread is here - https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/35 ... ent-602925

and here is a link to the document so far https://1drv.ms/x/s!AumCbU9W2zRegga-SPPCDT8x9UDb

Pretty standard colours:

But do you mean fuselage bands or Gruppe/staffel emblems eg blue/red band for JG7, shield for 3.JG11 etc?

See here - http://donhollway.com/bodenplatte/ but be wary because some of these things don't seem to be correct. For example a lot of III/JG54 D9s did not have fuselage bands in December 1944.

Luftwaffe markings are a mess and often they did not fit official OKL guidance or they ran out of paint.

Yes, I was mostly on about the number markings, but many of the Gruppen listed do not conform to the standard as you said there with colours such as Blue, Green, Grey and Brown being included, which is why I was asking for any specific knowledge for those Staffeln/Gruppen.

The Reichsverteidigung band info is a bonus, thanks for that. As you say, though, many of the photos of a/c involved in Bodenplatte do not appear to show those. Still very useful info to have though.

Google images and search for "1944 luftwaffe profiles" as that will give a wealth of detail including the bands again. It also shows the variation in how the tactical markings were applied.

You will probably find that green, blue or brown numbers were from IV Gruppe aircraft or from more specialist units such as Jabos or training wings.

Indeed - info is starting to come in and I will be continuing to add from various sources. To be honest it probably doesn't matter that much if I don't get the info as it will be possible to extrapolate from the info I already have in many cases. Besides, if it's not 100% it will probably still be good enough a resource. I just like to do the best job I can :)
