Our current Campaign is based on the period prior to the Battle of Britain. This will include the Norwegian Campaign and the Battle of France.
We will be flying the Gloster Gladiator, Blackburn Skua, Fairey Swordfish and Bristol Blenheim among others during the Norwegian section of this Campaign, based on the German invasion of Norway in April 1940.
We will then be moving to France where we will be concentrating on the Battle of France from the 9th of April to the 25th of June 1940. This will include the "Phony War" or "SitzKreig" and take us right through Dunkirk to the French surrender.
For the Battle of France portion of our campaign we will be flying early Hawker Hurricanes, Fairey Battles, Bristol Blenheims, Vickers Wellingtons and even some French aircraft including the Morane MS406 and Curtiss Hawk 75.
The Campaign will feature a mix of Fighter Patrols, Ground Attack and even daylight and night time Bombing Operations. We will be flying in strict formations and making attacks based on actual RAF Tactics of the time.
This is a special Campaign for us, as the original Campaign flown when the Tangmere Pilots were created over 8 years ago was also based on the Battle of France. At that time we flew Yak 1's to mimic the Hawker Hurricane as Hurricanes did not yet exist in the game. The release of the Forgotten Battles gave us the Hawker Hurricane to fly, but we were still forced to use our imagination and use what was in the game as substitutes for what actually flew within the Battle of France.
8 years on and things have drastically changed. Thanks to the great work of the IL2 Community we now have exact models of every aircraft we require for this campaign with only very few still missing. As a result, and in confidently hoping for the realease of Storm of War in the not too distant future we have decided to re-visit the campaign and fly it again, utilising all the aircraft that we are able to.
We have some of the best mission builders in the business as part of the Tangmere Pilots and we look forward to flying this campaign greatly. Why not come along and join us - the recruitment link is directly below.
