Our current Campaign is based on the battles fought by the Allied Units based on Guadalcanal during the assault on the Solomon Islands. These units were given the nickname of "The Cactus Air Force."
We will be flying the aircraft that took part in this period, with custom built missions being put together by our expert team of mission builders. All "Ops" will be based purely on historical fact, and will be diligently researched and created in great detail. The skills of the Tangmere Pilots' Mission Building Team have to be experienced to be believed.
During this Campaign, we will be flying the Grumman F4F Wildcat & Bell P400, in the Fighter and Ground Attack role. The SBD Dauntless and TBF Avenger in the Bomber/Dive Bomber role, as well as the possibility of one or more of us having to fly a PBY Catalina, or B17, just to mix things up a bit.
The Campaign will feature a mix of Fighter Patrols, Ground Attack, Escort and possibly daylight and night time Bombing Operations. We will be flying in strict formations and making attacks based on actual Tactics of the time.
This is a special Campaign for us, as the original 4 Squadrons of the Tangmere Pilots have been mixed up to provide a fresh perspective for all of us, flying on official operations with others we may not have flown operations with before as our leaders or wingmen.
